RV Extended Warranties in the year 2021. Are they really worth it?

RV extended warranty is basically a policy which you buy to cover (most of) the repair bills for the failure of almost every working mechanical component, system or appliance on your RV. An RV Extended Warranty provides you protection from a major financial blow in the event of these failures. Your financial outlay is usually limited to a “deductible” that you determine at the time of buying the RV Extended Warranty. RV extended warranty is similar to buying an insurance policy (although different) but it is worthwhile investment is a very individual choice, with many variables.

“RV extended warranty is all about risk management, and peace of mind. And what you are willing to do or pay for that.”

RV Extended Warranties in the year 2021. Are they really worth it?

What does an RV Extended Warranty cover?

RV Extended Warranty is designed to cover mechanical and electrical breakdowns and repairs on your RV roof. Things like the repair costs of slide-outs, furnaces, air conditioners, water heaters, appliances, engines and so on. RV extended warranty can be Exclusionary vs. Inclusionary.

Exclusionary policy- extended warranty

An EXCLUSIONARY policy is the best type of RV warranty one should have, as it offers the highest level of coverage/protection you can get on your RV.  It covers EVERY mechanical component on your RV, except for what is specifically listed under the “What is Not Covered” or “Exclusions” section of your policy. An Exclusionary RV warranty is the most comprehensive and best coverage available for your RV.

Inclusionary Policy- extended warranty

An Inclusionary Policy is also known as a “Listed Component” RV extended warranty and offers limited coverage. These policies will list exactly which items are covered under the contract. If the item that fails is NOT on this list, it won’t be covered. That’s why it is considered a lower level of coverage than the “exclusionary” policy and therefore is less expensive.

What does an RV Extended Warranty NOT cover?

RV extended warranty will not cover regular RV service and maintenance. So you will still have to cover the cost of oil changes, tires and rotations etc. from your pocket. RV warranties also exclude damage to your windows, flooring, furniture, and upholstery and awning materials.

As always, read the contract, its terms and conditions of coverage carefully before signing! Know what you are – and are not – getting! And also make sure you understand the process for filing a claim in the event of a breakdown.

What are the most common RV repairs?

The most common repairs for both motorhomes and towable RVs are air conditioners, slide outs, leveling jacks, generator, and the most important RV Roof repairs. Of course, while on the road there are many more things that can fail and need repair.

RV roof repair doesn’t have to be time consuming or difficult. Some repairs need professional expertise but some repairs can be done easily with RV roof sealant e.g. Liquid RV Roof.

What do RV repairs cost?

RV repair costs depend on the nature and complexity of the repairs needed. Large Motorhomes – especially bigger Class A’s and Super C’s – tend to be more complex and expensive than, say smaller Class B’s, Class C’s, and travel trailers and fifth wheels.

RVs are becoming increasingly big and complicated these days – with more technology, electrical and mechanical and systems. This means more things can also go wrong while you are on the wheels! Most RV repair facilities charge hourly labor rates that range between $85 and $150 an hour. The average tends to be around $120 – $130 an hour. But these can also move up to $200 an hour on more expensive rigs.

It has been estimated by many in the RV industry that an RV repair will cost, on average, $300 an hour, including parts and labor. So RV repair costs really can add up fast and cost a fortune on your RV travel experience! Not to mention your bank account.

Whether your RV will need major repairs?

According to RV industry, at least 3 out of 10 RVs will require a major repair in their second year on the road. By the 5th year, that goes up to 8 out of 10 and within 8 years, virtually all RVs will need a major repair.

In Short

When you a buy a new RV you will not need to buy an RV extended warranty as the manufacturer’s warranty will mostly cover the repairs for at-least for one year and in some cases for 2 to 3 years. BUT there are still advantages to buying an RV extended warranty right away – cost savings, convenience and peace of mind.

Fix Those Last-Minute RV Roof Repairs with RV Liquid Roof Coatings

RV Roof coating is the most common type of material used in all types of RVs found today. RV Roof coating is the RV’s roof main line of defense against all the extrusive elements. There are two main types of liquid roofing coatings and they are either EPDM, or Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer, and TPO, or Thermal Polyolefin. Both of these coatings are synthetic rubber compound and each is having its own formula and repair and maintenance requirements. Before using any type of RV roof coating it is best to consult your RV’s manual to determine what type of roof you have and how to take care of it.

Fix Those Last-Minute RV Roof Repairs with RV Liquid Roof Coatings

How to Maintain EPDM Roofing

EPDM roof if installed correctly will not require a lot of maintenance in early years but over the period of time EPDM roofs will require re-sealing of the seams and edges, but this is typical roof maintenance regardless of the type of RV roof that you choose. EPDM is low on maintenance but it does not react very well to solvents and oil. That’s why it is important for you to keep your EPDM roof clean and free from debris and oil residues.

How to Maintain TPO Roofing

TPO roofs are very durable and their sturdy sheet installation is very popular among the RVers. Although TPO roofing is a newer product than EPDM, but there is lot of information available to maintain your TPO RV roofs. TPO roofs require more maintenance than EPDM roofs because the seams require regular treatments with adhesive to ensure proper sealing. The constant replacement of seams causes premature deterioration on the TPO seams. However, with the increasing popularity of TPO roofing many products are available which can enhance its longevity and to help to combat premature deterioration on the TPO seams.

Liquid Roof Coatings

Liquid roofing the RV is gaining popularity as it is easy to apply, durable and cost-effective too. liquid roofing products like RV Liquid Roof coating creates a flexible seal around all the fixtures and seams and adding strength to the caulking too. RV Liquid Roof product is ideal choice for those who want a DIY product which is easy to install as well as easy on maintenance. Handling of this product is quite easy as compared to TPO and EPDM sheet roofing, which require much more time and an assortment of tools that the average RVer might not have on hand.

Annual Cleaning and Inspections

Whether you prefer to choose RV Liquid roof coatings or opt for some other roofing product, regular inspections and annual cleaning is must to avoid damage. If your RV is not stored under climate control conditions or it is exposed to extreme weather conditions more frequent inspections may be a good idea.

You should clean the RV at least twice a year with water and some good RV cleaner. Never use harsh chemical or abrasive products as they can cause damage to the roof. Always use products which are safe and compatible to use on the RV roof material otherwise, you could do more harm than good.

Liquid Roof: Good Sealants Are Not Hard To Pick!

Re-sealing the RV roof is a task that every RVer should perform every three to five years depending upon how much you use your RV and how it is stored. Water damage is the major culprit of roof damage but there are some other issues which can go wrong with your RV roof if the sealant is falling off or needs to be replaced.

Below are some tips which can help you to find a high-quality sealant that gives you all of the features that you want.

UV Resistance

A good RV coating should have a strong UV-resistance factor. Sun is the worst enemy of your RV roof causing things like discoloration, cracking and drying, and more. A UV-resistant coating will able to protect your roof for longer period of time and if you choose a coating with a white finish you can even have more better climate control on the inside.

Vibration and Tear Resistance

Weather and debris are not only the damaging factors even vibrations on the road can cause tears on the roof. These tears if not addressed properly can expand allowing rain water to seep in causing leaks. But with good RV coating tears will not happen as the roof coating material will contract and expand with the bumps in the road to prevent major damage.

Easy Application

Nothing is worse than spending money on a roof coating that is difficult to apply and use. With so many products available most RV sealants are easy to apply like paint material. It means now you can take care of your RV and can save money involved in giving someone else to do the work.

Guarantees or Warranties

When investing in a roof coating choose something that comes with a warranty or a guarantee ensuring that it will provide the protection that your roof needs. Good companies will always stand behind the product they offer so you should take advantage of the augmented benefits offered when you are shopping for the right roof coating.

How to Narrow Down Your Options

Choosing a best RV roof sealant is a matter of personal preference. If you are looking for a product that is easy to apply and also UV-resistant then you would be giving more weightage to these options. Also check product reviews and discuss your views with other RVers in your community because they may have the firsthand experience with the product.

RV Roof Repair with Liquid EPDM – Does Corona Pandemic affect how you do RV/Motorhome Maintenance …!!

RV owners need to understand that RVs are not like other vehicles and thus they have unique repair and maintenance requirements. Owing and maintaining mobile home is just like maintaining a residential home but with an added pressure of doing travelling. But thankfully there are products out there which can make your RV repair easy and satisfying like Liquid EPDM.

What’s EPDM All About?

EPDM is an acronym which stands for ethylene propylene diene monomer. Liquid EPDM is basically the EPDM rubber in liquid form and only the true EPDM, not like ordinary coatings. As in liquid form it can be applied virtually to any surface to repair the damage or to prevent it from further happening.

Why Is Liquid EPDM Used for RV Roof Repairs?

Rubber is the most common material used in RVs. Rubber is both light weight and cost effective. A sheet of rubber is applied over the wood substrate that forms the sub-roof on your RV, and thus it protects the underneath RV from damaging sun rays, weather variations and ponding. However rubber is not the perfect material because it is subject to aging and degradation. With the passage of time and UV-exposure it will crack and become brittle, further heat and cold expand these cracks and allow the rain water to seep into your roof. Liquid EPDM is the fastest way to repair the damage and degradation. It seals up the cracks and prevents water leaks and restores your RV’s roof to a like-new condition.

The Benefits of Liquid EPDM

While there are many ordinary coatings available on the market but Liquid EPDM is unique because it offers unique benefits. It water proofs the RV the moment it is applied although some curing time is required to set completely. Another benefit is Liquid EPDM is one coat solution for your RV, means you can repair the damage done with only single coat. One coat and you’re done. Lastly Liquid EPDM can be applied easily using rollers and paint brushes. It goes only easily like a paint material. Also there is no need to add or mix additional coatings or substances.

Corona Pandemic Alert

If you're not a full-time RVer, now is not the time to plan or embark on any trips, stay at home and maintain social distancing to keep yourself and your family away from being getting infected. So when you’re at home and have ample of time now is the time to repair your RV using Liquid EPDM and prepare it for your next journey when the pandemic is over.

RV Roof Repair Tips: Some Useful thoughts for RV Beginners & Full Timers….!!

RV represents a big chunk of your investment. The biggest mistake you will make is to think that your RV will last forever without doing maintenance at all. Most RV owners dedicate their time and energy to maintain engine and tires. However, very few of you give a thoughtful consideration in managing the RV roof, because RV out of sight means out of mind.

The Need for RV Roof Repair

RV or mobile home roof differs greatly from residential roofs because of following reasons:
·         First when you drive your RV frequently it puts a lot of stress on the roof. The stress is due to many factors, including the G-force created by taking turns, expansion and contraction due to heat and cold, and more.

·         As you travel anywhere into the wilderness the temperature fluctuations also make their toll on the RVs. Again, heat and cold will make the rubber of the roof expand and contract. These leads to stress fractures over time, which will eventually widen into cracks that allow water to leak.

Liquid RV Roof Repair

Although RV roof repair is a necessity it doesn’t have to difficult or time consuming when you have Liquid RV Roof. Liquid RV Roof not only repairs the damage done to the roof but also prevent issues down the road. Liquid RV Roof is true EPDM product goes on like a paint material but resembles the elasticity of rubber when applied and cured. Tips to help with Liquid EPDM application on Your RV Roof…!!!

Liquid Roofing is the new feat in the RV roofing industry. As a newer option for RV roofing many RV owners are not familiar with its use and application. In this article we have shared some tips and tricks to make sure you get most out of the product e.g., Liquid EPDM.

Start with Cleaning

Before you apply Liquid Roof you have to first clean the RV roof to remove dirt, debris, loose materials and oil residues. A power wash is the right way to start with. A clean RV roof will make it easier for Liquid EPDM to adhere to the roof properly.

It must be dry

When you are done with power wash, let the RV roof to completely dry under the sunlight. For porous material it is more critical as it can absorb water and later on release that moisture causing bubbles and blistering after Liquid EPDM application.

Right tools do matter

Liquid EPDM can be easily applied by using simple paintbrush or a paint roller; however, you will need additional tools as well such as a paddle mixer and a bucket to combine the liquid and the catalyst. Painters tape may also be needed if you are applying Liquid EPDM to a particular area and do not want to coat adjacent areas.

Go thin

Liquid EPDM is one coat application system for your RV without needing a primer (in most cases). You only need a single coat in most cases, which should be around one millimeter thick. Don’t apply a second coat unless it absolutely needed.

Give it time

Liquid EPDM water-proofs the RV the instant it is applied, even if it rains it is fine in most cases. However, it is advisable to choose a clear warm sunny day for Liquid EPDM application as it takes a temperature above 55’F degrees to cure and 24 hours to dry out completely.\

Liquid EPDM Rubber – Redefining EPDM Roofing

EPDM was introduced in 1960, and since than it has become an appealing choice as single membrane roofing system. For RV roofing EPDM has redefined itself into liquid roofing, a product as durable as sheet EPDM but more flexible and easy to install.

https://youtu.be/mKH9CC0QtmI

What EPDM actually is?

EPDM stands for Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer. It’s two main elements Ethylene and propylene are derived from natural gas and oil and combined with other ingredients to create a durable, flexible roofing solution for RVs and campers.

Weather ability with EPDM

One of the biggest advantages of EPDM is its weather-ability. EPDM holds up extremely well against extreme weather conditions. The rubber material is extremely resistance to UV rays, hail damage, storms, extreme heat and cold, and other elements.

Installing an EPDM Rubber Roof

EPDM sheet form can be cut according to the size of roof and then adhered to the roof using adhesive or sealant. Liquid EPDM roofing can be poured like a paint material using a roller or squeegee to spread the liquid on the entire roof. Liquid EPDM products are enhanced with self-leveling additive which creates and even seamless membrane.

EPDM Roof and caulking:

If your RV has an EPDM rubber roof then you have to caulk the areas along the seams and edges and around the AC vents and skylights. This is done to add an extra layer of protection on the seams of all of your fixtures, including roof racks, air conditioners, and more.

The Future Outlook:

With new advancements in RV roofing industry EPDM continues to evolve to offer better solutions for RV roofing. Most of the liquid roofing products are now offering warranties of their products backed by superior performance of EPDM. Rising demand for EPDM in different industries in various regions is likely to propel the EPDM market in the near future.

RV roofs are made up of different materials like rubber, fiberglass or metal which means each roof is different in its nature and thus require a unique product. Before you choose any product make sure it is compatible with your RV roof.

Tip # 2

Some products are sold in kits which cover a certain amount of area or for limited application. So,it’s important to know the extent of damage done to your RV roof and the amount of material needed before you make your buying decision. When the damage is extensive skip any DIY product and seek professional help.

Tip # 3

Most RV roofs will require some prep-work before installation of any roof product. This includes cleaning the roof from any dirt, debris or loose material, washing the roof surface with mild detergents to remove oil residues. Don’t ever use petroleum products or harsh chemicals as they can cause damage to your RV roof.

Tip # 4

Since the seams over the roof crack overtime, you need to reseal all the trim, windows, doors and anywhere else where water can get in. Before applying any roof coating it is advisable to seal the seams or caulk the areas around AC /fan vents or around windows.

Tip # 5

The market is currently flooded with RV repair products but never compromise on quality and always purchase a product particularly designed for RVs e.g., Liquid RV Roof. There is a lot of information available on the internet, always checks the reviews and make an informed decision.
